Sarah Nelson is an artist, designer and illustrator. She first earned her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she majored in Fashion Design. During her tenure at MassArt Sarah won the top awards in fashion design in her Junior and Senior years. Her work was featured in The Boston Globe. After working several years in custom dressmaking, she decided to pursue her MFA in Theater with a focus on Costume Design. She earned her MFA from The University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 2009. Sarah loved the collaborative work of costume design for theater and had the privilege of working on several interesting projects before she decided to take a break from professional life in order to focus on her young children. Though her family is at the center of her life, (as you will see reflected in her artwork) Sarah is an artist at heart and is happiest when she is working on her artwork and illustrations. In recent years, Sarah has pursued her passion for art and design by creating studio work with fabric, thread and sewing machine as well as mixed media on paper. She has also learned to illustrate digitally with ProCreate. Most recently her creative time was devoted to illustrating her first children’s book, “Hope Beneath the Tree”, by Kristen Vincent published in October of 2023. She is hoping to pursue illustrating picture books in the years to come and is eager for new projects.
